Why should you prune your plantings?
Pruning can encourage plant vigor when you remove weak, diseased, and overcrowded growth.
Pruning can help keep branches and limbs away from power lines and buildings.
You also should prune to remove weak branches before strong winds can break limbs and fall on people or buildings. Good pruning also opens blocked sightlines, such as when overhanging limbs block the views from driveways or street corners.
Regular pruning can prevent a plant from overgrowing its space in the landscape and eliminate the need for you to drastically cut crowded, overgrown plants.
